That we live in data-driven environments is an unavoidable fact of life in the Western world. But, what are data? Who creates them and why? How are they used and who benefits from them? How does data change who we are, what we do and how we live? These are some of the questions we explore in these conversations.

MISSION

It's an inescapable fact that we live in data-driven environments. Who we are and what we do in the “real” and “virtual” worlds is constantly captured by diverse entities, which use this information to make decisions and influence individuals and behaviors. However, what dictates data capture and how it is handled and operated remains invisible, inaccessible and unexplained.

The goal of these serial conversations is to make our engagements and interactions with data visible and to explore the implications and challenges of living in a dated world. They explore a variety of themes, from privacy to identity, from artificial intelligence in the domestic sphere to large planetary surveillance systems, from monitoring social networks to recording and sharing images from the earliest times of human life, from public policy formulation to interventions civic and creative.

Following an informal and interactive model, this series of conversations gives voice to international experts who will speak about their work. Each lecture is followed by a moment of conversation with the audience, where questions and discussion topics are asked.

This series of conversations is intended to create an open forum to discuss a topic that is increasingly relevant in our lives. No technical knowledge is required.
